Keekorok Lodge

At the southern end of the Masai Mara lies Keekorok Lodge. There is always plenty of activity around the waterhole but during the wildebeest migration, the lodge is enveloped by the swarming mass of animals. One need hardly venture from ground to view game - from the veranda and from Kiboko Bar, there is plenty to see. One unfortunate zebra met its end right in front of the dinning room, providing supper for a pride of hungry lions, and a spectacle of first class for enthralled guests at Keekorok.

keekorok_lodgeAccommodation at Keekorok is in bungalows, single-story blocks and in comfortable shaded chalets. The liberal use of cedar wood, pink and grey Sand River stone and other indigenous building materials offset the green lawns and colourful bougainvillea. The terrace overlooks mowed lawns and a swimming pool.

A 300 meter raised walkway winds through the forest in front of the lodge to a thatched sundowner bar overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara and a pool with resident hippos. There are no fences around Keekorok Lodge thus it is not uncommon to see elephants and buffalos on the perimeter of the grounds.

After an exciting day of your Kenya safari spent game watching, a quick dip in the swimming pool is a welcome refreshment before you enjoy your sundowners. The roaring log fire in the lounge heralds an evening starting with a fabulous dinner of local and international delicacies, followed by traditional Masai dancing and cultural or wildlife lectures and videos for your entertainment.
