Mount Kenya Safari Club

mt_kenya_safari_club_suiteSited on the lush lower slopes of Mount Kenya, the Mount Kenya Safari Club offers a unique blend of comfort, relaxation and adventure. Set in manicured lawns, ornamental ponds and flowerbeds, this famous retreat exudes quiet elegance against a dramatic backdrop. Originally the retreat of movie star and Club founder, William Holden, the Club's illustrious former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby.

With magnificent views of majestic Mount Kenya, the Safari Club's accommodation comprises of two villas, 13 riverside and 12 William Holden cottages, eight garden clubrooms and studio suites. All rooms have a private bathroom with shower, telephone and log fireplace. The luxury villas, William Holden cottages and the presidential suite each have a large sitting room. Most rooms also have a private veranda overlooking the majestic Mount Kenya.
Dinners are an elegant affair at the Mount Kenya Safari Club. Dress is strictly smart casual, long trousers (no jeans) for gentlemen are mandatory.

Overlooking a courtyard, the Club restaurant serves a buffet breakfast, buffet lunch and 9-course dinner based on a cosmopolitan combination of European, African and Asian dishes and there is also a full vegetarian menu available at all meals. The resident band entertains you throughout dinner and provides dance music afterwards.

The Trophy Bar is a large club-like lounge, with a huge central fireplace, weathered Chesterfield sofas, an assortment of Africana, antique Arab chests and a splendid array of game trophies. It has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and is ideal place for your cocktails. The adjoining terrace has a fixed telescope placed on a stand which affords you a closer look at the mountain and its beautiful scenery.

The Mountain View Bar and Lounge is open throughout the day and evening, offering the sight of the mountain as it rises out of darkness in dawn’s early light with its snow-crowned peaks that further down give way to verdant forest.

Wildlife within the forests includes elephant, buffalo, lion, and several species of antelope including the rare bongo. Sometimes even the elusive leopard and the serval are spotted. Much of this wildlife can be seen from the Mountain Lodge, which lies just inside the forest on the south side of the mountain.
