Ol Tukai is one of the most modern lodges in East Africa having extremely well developed and equipped servicing and operational facilities. The design of the lodge was inspired by the beautiful surroundings to take full advantage of the flat planes on one side and the lush Acacia tree forest on the other.
The buildings are arranged to give an open, generous atmosphere with a blend of traditional African flavour. The buildings are spaciously laid out and the property has well maintained flat lawns, gardens and wide open spaces.
The 80 luxury chalet-style twin rooms with private bathrooms and individual terraces, from where one enjoys fantastic views of landscape, mountain, sky and wildlife, are spread out on either side of the main lodge. Stylish, comfortable and very spacious, the rooms, like the rest of the lodge, are built from gum trees, local river stone and slate. For handicapped guests two rooms have been designed according to EU standards.
The exclusive Kibo Villa, a self-contained log cabin with three luxurious en-suite rooms, roof terrace and Jacuzzi, is also available.
The dining room features an intricately designed sisal tapestry by a local artist, depicting the Masai people. Just meters from elephants and other game that venture close to the boundary, the dining room opens onto a veranda in the garden where lunch is usually served.
As the day heats up you can cool off in the acacia-shaded swimming pool. The afternoon allows for a siesta or a massage before the afternoon game drive back into the park. In the evening there are many cocktails to sample in The Elephant Bar while watching elephants grazing close by. If you want to find out more about the ‘big greys’ there are daily lectures from the elephant research station and the occasional screening of wildlife documentaries. Traditional Masai dancing leads the evening to its conclusion before you return to your cottage where you can take a nightcap sitting quietly on your terrace enjoying the sounds of the African bush. This is also the ideal spot for star gazers in the Kenyan star-studded nights.

On your early morning game drive you will see the 5,895-meter mountain revealed- you will have ample opportunity to click away for those stunning ‘in front of Kili’ pictures before an optional champagne breakfasts. Sundowners of bush-dinners at the summit of Observation Hill, where the 360-degree view is superb, compliment evening game drives.
As Amboseli is home to a myriad of species of beautiful African birds you might want to take part in a short bird walk that starts at the entrance of the hotel and rambles under the canopy of acacia trees around the lodge. This is definitely a must for any fledgling ornithologist!
