 This tree-lodge is uniquely shaped to resemble Noah’s Ark, designed with decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for viewing the animals visiting the salt-lick and waterhole.
A ground level bunker provides excellent photographic opportunities and takes you closer than you would believe possible to the elephants. They love the natural salt lick and get onto their knees to dig into the ground with their tusks. For hours, they eat the salty earth full of minerals. Finally they quench their thirst at the waterhole. It’s almost a face to face experience with the Big Greys!
By night, the Yasabara waterhole is floodlit so that you can observe the comings and goings of rhino, elephant, bushbuck and occasionally also the elusive Bongo. Numerous other animals also visit this busy meeting place all day and night so there is always something to see. The "Resident Hunter" is always on hand to explain on the wildlife and landscape.
The Ark has 60 cabin-style comfortably furnished rooms with views of the forest or waterhole. The en-suite bathrooms contain shaving socket, shower, washbasin and flush toilet. For your convenience water flasks and glasses, hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided in each room. But the best feature has to be the buzzer system which operates in each cabin to alert you when there is something very special to see such as a Leopard, who usually sneaks to the floodlit waterhole in the dead of night. It is of course up to you whether or not you get up!
Dinner, lunch and breakfast are served 'on board' The Ark in the main dining room which has a glass wall with superb views of the dense forest. The menu is a cosmopolitan combination of European and Kenya safari dishes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are Table d'hôte.
Located on one of the viewing decks is a bar and lounge which remains open all night for tea and coffee to keep you warm while you watch the game around the waterhole.
